Candid group portraits

CAPTURING CANDID GROUP PORTRAITS CAN BE CHALLENGING.

When taking a group shot, there is often at least one individual that becomes aware of your presence. Whether this matters, may depend on the interaction between that individual and the other members of the group. It is important to achieve a strong overall shape while optimising the degree of overlap between the members of the group. This is often easier said than done.

In achieving the capture shown here, I used a wall as a backdrop and did attempt at first to be totally candid. However, despite my best efforts, I was seen by one of the girls, who unexpectedly decided to strike a friendly pose. Luckily, it did not spoil the effect of the image. The group were well dispersed along the wall and make for an interesting study of local students waiting for their daily bus to school.
